A High-Occupancy Toll (HOT) lane is a type of traffic lane or roadway that is restricted to high-occupancy vehicles (HOV) and other exempt vehicles (e.g. motorcycles and mass transit vehicles) but also allows single-occupancy vehicles (SOV) to use it for a fee.
:
•
The new HOT lane is expected to reduce congestion during peak hours.
•
Drivers can pay a toll to use the HOT lane if they don't have enough passengers.
